I really just want boss fights in Yakuza 6 to be one on one fights without the game favoring the boss, giving them broken mechanics the player isn't allowed to have. Then when the fight is over, the boss gets knocked down and I'm still standing like the whole thing was no problem. And I'm getting my ass beat by some boss who is nowhere near as strong as me, as the game tells me.ĭuring the fight, I'm constantly getting knocked down, mashing X, running away like a baby to use healing items. In Yakuza 5, I'm Kiryu Kazuma, Dragon of Dojima, the biggest badass to ever wear the title of Yakuza. Did no one at SEGA playtesting these fights think "Man, these sure are shit"?Īnd the icing on the cake is how lied to I felt after beating the final boss. This is the opposite of what I'm supposed to be feeling. When I'm playing these games and I see a character, I'm supposed to think "Man, I can't wait to fight him later!", instead I think "Ugh, I'm gonna have to fight him later". Then it ends, and I have to play the fight again. In Summary-īoss fights in these games are the most fun when I'm playing them the least, like when I trigger a QTE where a mini sequence plays out of my character doing a big hit or something. You also can't attack him while he regains his health, since your attacks just bounce off him like he's made of iron or something. He did this twice on my second time fighting him. This fight also features not one, not two, but three QTE button mash prompts that last almost 10 seconds each, in case your thumb wasn't hurting enough from all the mashing to escape grabs and get up every time you're knocked down.Īnd the boss has at least 8 life bars, and has a move he will perform when he's down to 3 or so to regain about 60% of a lifebar. Meaning if you both attack at the same time, he wins. It's impossible to get a full attack string on him.) A body explosion that he can perform at will, even when you're in the middle of attacking him, to break your combo and let him attack you (Seriously, he does this all the time. A string of about 20 or so attacks (You're screwed if you don't have the Re-Guard ability, and it stunlocks you so you can't roll to escape) A string of attack which ends in him mounting you and punching your face (Mash X to get him off) Even though nearly all the bosses in this game have the same problems as this one. In the interest of time, I'll only talk about the final boss of this game too. I played on Normal this time, and still had the problem where I would be fighting a boss and every minute or so, I would sigh and think "I wish I wasn't doing this" Yakuza 5-Īnd now for Yakuza 5, which I just finished an hour ago. If they had mixed up the order to this one not being the last one, I might be less critical of it (but probably not) The last bit of the game is the 4 main characters fighting the opposing 4 antagonists. There's no reason it had to be the last one anyway. And since it's the last fight of the game, it leaves an extra bad taste in my mouth for the game. Unless you took them all out beforehand, which is very had to do since there are about 3 mid bosses in the fight with you, and you have to deal with the real boss shooting at your while you fight the underlings. It's the most frustrating thing in the world to have to chase this guy down while he's running around and try to hit him while simultaneously avoiding getting hit my his minions. And if that's not bad enough, this bastard laughs at you when he shoots you down. Guns in this game stunlock you and almost always result in a hard knockdown. And that may be the most unfun bit I've had in a game in recent memory.īasically, the last boss of this crazy action game about Japanese crime lords is:Ī guy who runs around a huge area, calling in ads that are WAAY stronger than him (I'm talking like 10 extra dudes, 3 of which have multiple life bars) while he runs around the area taking potshots at you with his pistol. Since I played Yakuza 4 about a month ago, I really only remember the final boss. I'm sure around 90% of them still have the problems I'm going to list later. I'll start with Yakuza 4, I think I have a biased opinion of this game that the bosses since I played it on Easy and didn't have much trouble with most of the bosses. If you haven't played the games, I'll try to avoid naming names of bosses to avoid spolers. So, I think Yakuza 4 and 5 may, in my opinion, have the worst boss fights of any 3D Action game I've ever played. That's the conversation I imagine went around the table at SEGA when they were envisioning the Yakuza game boss fights. "Hey, you know what people hate? Fun boss fights!" Note: this is about Yakuza 4 and 5 since those are the two I've played
